After several trips to Brazil to conduct
basketball camps, Triple Threat Academy founder
and director Tony Freccero realized that he
could no longer watch kids play basketball with
no shoes. In May of 2005, he launched Project
SHOE ASSIST. Drop-off stations were set up
throughout Northern California to collect used
shoes to ship to the student-athletes of Bolar
Basketball Academy in Rio de Janeiro.
Project SHOE ASSIST collects new and gently used
athletic shoes once a year for a two month
period. The shoes are then packed and shipped
to Brazil where they are distributed to those
who are truly in need.
Triple Threat Academy has formed a partnership
with Bolar Basketball School and is now
operating on two continents. We strive to use
basketball as a vehicle to teach much needed
life skills such as: leadership, responsibility,
discipline, passion, selflessness, respect,
perspective, courage, imagination, and
resilience.
PROJECT SHOE ASSIST aims to make the experience
for all the Bolar students life changing, and we
believe this starts with putting shoes on their
feet.
