Cal State Hayward Hoop Alum Will Help Run NBA Camps

Oakland, CA (June 2, 2004) ? Tony Freccero, former basketball standout at Bishop O’Dowd High School and Cal State Hayward and now director of Triple Threat Academy will head to South America to assist with the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders Camp taking place June 28-July 3rd in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (http://www.nba.com/bwb/bwob_index.html).   The camp is being directed by Bishop O’Dowd alum and head international scout for the Detroit Pistons, Tony Ronzone. Freccero will be working with NBA players Nene, Dikembe Mutombo, Felipe Lopez, Danny Ferry, Leandro Barbosa and Eduardo Najara instructing the 50 top 16-17 year olds from South America and the Caribbean.

In addition to instructing current and future NBA players, Freccero plans to run a free two-day basketball clinic for the students of Bolar Basketball.  This will be his second time working with the kids of Bolar. On the Web: www.bolar.com.br.

“Last time I was in Brazil, I worked with Rogerio Werneck (of Bolar), who is an amazing man trying to bring basketball to the underprivileged kids in attempts to keep them off the streets, out of the slums and out of trouble–very positive,” said Freccero, who is also an assistant coach for the Oakland Slam N’ Jam Soldiers 1 AAU, and assistant coach at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland.  “It was one of the best experiences of my life.   I want to bring more to these kids that have so little.”

In the San Francisco Bay Area, Freccero’s Triple Threat Academy works with kids through individual, group and camp basketball instruction.  This summer’s Triple Threat camps will be held in Castro Valley, Danville, and Alameda.  Parents looking to sign-up their kids for Triple Threat camps can conveniently register their ballers online at www.triplethreatonline.com.

What people are saying

Devin is on the JV basketball team, starting and getting very little rest time. Her shot looks good and finally she is getting inside to make the shot and draw the foul. She still credits you guys and especially Tony for those moves. Basketball has become her favorite of the three sports she plays, she quit club volleyball and plays AAU basketball. Basketball runs our lives for 10 months. Thank you for the building of not only her skills but her self esteem that has helped make her who she is becoming today, not just on the court.
