When TTA started 10 years ago, our focus was the same it is today–use basketball as a vehicle to teach life skills. Regardless of skill, we strive to help kids enjoy the game of basketball and teach it in a fun and energetic way.
Our first East Bay camp took place at Assumption School over the Winter break 2003, and the gym was packed. Never did we image that our camp would have a superstar on our hands.
One child stood out more than others, not because of his size or his talent, but because of his poise and confidence. Fast forward 10 years and that young man, Damian Lillard, was chosen by the Portland Trailblazers as the #6 pick in the NBA draft!
Through hard work, poise and confidence, Dame became a Lottery Pick on the biggest stage in basketball. We had the pleasure to train him when he was young and we always said, “If he grows, he will have a chance so get paid playing basketball.”
Well, he grew and he is going to get paid!
His freshman year of high school when Coach Lou and Coach Tony were coaching at Bishop O’Dowd, he torched our team with 16 points in the first quarter!
Congrats for all the hard work Mr. Lillard, you are an example of how doing it the right way pays off.
We would also like to congratulate the following players who spent time with TTAÂ in the gym to help improve their skills:
- Jarred Cunningham: #24 Pick- Cleveland Cavs
- Orlando Johnson: #35 Pick- Sacramento Kings
And TTA kid and Summer Coach Drew Gordon went undrafted, but immediately got picked up by the Dallas Mavericks for their summer league team.
What all 4 of these guys have in common is that they are great basketball players and more important, they are GREAT kids! Â They spent many hours in the gym working at their games when they could have been doing so many other things–video games, Facebook, etc!
Keep up the great work fellas and keep inspiring Bay Area youth to strive to be their best and reach their dreams.
Thank you for your continued support of TTA.
